2025 Vibrant Palmares Festival In Costa Rica

The Palmares Festival, is one of Costa Rica’s most anticipated annual events,  attracting over a million visitors each year. In 2025, the festival is scheduled from  January 16 to January 27, offering two weeks of vibrant celebrations in the  town. Both residents and visitors will have opportunities to enjoy themselves.

takes place in Palmares, in the

aprox 55 km (34 miles) northwest of

The Palmares Civic Association,  

who organizes this event, directs a  

significant portion of the funds  

collected to social welfare  

organizations.

Thousands of  individuals journey from across the nation to participate in these celebrations, which offer a diverse range of attractions for everyone, catering to all preferences. The events include  a Children’s Festival, Carnival, bullfights, amusement rides and performances by  famous artists. 

Key Highlights of the 2025 Palmares Festival: 

Tope (Horse Parade): A traditional equestrian parade featuring over 1,500  riders showcasing their horses and skills. This event is scheduled for Saturday,  January 18, starting at 12:00 PM. 

Bullfights: Known locally as “Toros a la Tica,” these events are a unique Costa  Rican tradition where participants engage with bulls in a non-lethal manner,  emphasizing skill and bravery. The bullfights are a daily attraction throughout the  festival.  

Concerts and Live Music: The festival features performances by popular Costa  Rican musicians and international artists. While many outdoor concerts are free,  some headline acts may require ticket purchases, with prices varying depending  on the artist.  

Carnival Rides and Amusement: A variety of amusement rides and games  suitable for all ages are set up, providing entertainment for families and thrill seekers alike.  

Fireworks Displays: Spectacular fireworks light up the night sky, marking the  opening and closing ceremonies, as well as other special occasions during the  festival.  

Gastronomy and Beverages: A wide array of local foods and drinks are  available, allowing visitors to savour traditional Costa Rican cuisine and  beverages. The festival is also known for its beer tents, offering a lively  atmosphere reminiscent of Oktoberfest.  

Sports Events: Athletic competitions, including mountain biking and soccer  matches, are organized, attracting sports enthusiasts and participants from  across the country.

Accommodation: Given the festival’s popularity, it’s advisable to book  accommodations well in advance. Options range from hotels in Palmares to  nearby towns such as Alajuela and San Ramon. 

Transportation: Palmares is accessible via the Inter-American Highway, with  public buses and private transportation options available from San Jose and  other major cities. 

Safety: As with any large event, remain vigilant of personal belongings and be  aware of your surroundings. It’s also recommended to stay hydrated and use  sun protection during daytime activities.
